Upcoming 4 Year Old Excursion Risk Assessments

March 10th, 2012

The following risk assessment statements are also available to view on the foyer noticeboard

Risk Assessment for Excursions to Healesville Sanctuary

  • Each Four Year Old Group will have a separate excursion to the Sanctuary. The parents are to arrange transport to and from the Sanctuary themselves and have been instructed to meet staff inside the entrance.
  • The Person in Charge will be either Heather Trotter for Blue and White Group, or Jo Bluhm for Green Group.
  • Each child will be accompanied by their own parent or other caregiver, who will be directly responsible for the child.
  • They will all walk around to view the exhibits, and meet for lunch at a designated picnic area. Parents have been requested to provide food for themselves and their children, in accordance with our food policy (no nuts or whole egg)
  • Next we assemble at the Birds of Prey Presentation. Parents have been told to avoid standing near the carpeted sections of railing, and not to allow food to be eaten in that area.
  • Following this, we form a group to follow the shortcut track to the Education Centre. The children will be counted and taken by staff into the classroom. This is the only time of the day that staff are directly responsible for supervision – until after the conclusion of the education session when the children will wash their hands, line up, then be dismissed to the adult responsible for them.
  • We have considered the risks involved in taking the children outside the Centre for this excursion (traffic at the carpark, food allergies, safety at the Birds of Prey exhibit, and safety around water), and consider that we do have adequate supervision.

Risk Assessment for Excursion to Post Letters

  • We will leave the Kindergarten to cross Charles Street in small groups then walk around the corner to the Letter Box in Manchester Road.
  • The children and parents will stand against the shop front of the Indian Restaurant until each child is called in turn to stand on the low step stool to post their letters. The child then returns to stand in their place.
  • Once each child has posted their letters, they will again hold hands in small groups, accompanied by a staff member or parent, and proceed to Charles Street where they will cross the road to return to the Kindergarten.
  • The group will be accompanied by 2 staff members, and parent volunteers,
  • With the ratio being no less than 1:4.
