PRESIDENTS UPDATE From Newsletter 1, 2013

Welcome to all the families and children of MECEC for 2013.

Some of you are new to MECEC this year, some have children returning and some have a second or third child starting.

For our kids it will be another huge year of learning and play, hopefully for the parents you can watch and enjoy your child and the broad range of development that is taking place cognitively, physically or socially.

Of course the New Year has also brought some staffing changes which we hope to have posted on the website shortly. We’re sure that all new staff members will enjoy the MECEC environment and that your children will enjoy their presence.

As you would know fundraising plays a big role in ensuring that MECEC can offer the best possible programs to you and your children. The 2012 fundraising allowed us to provide new mulch for the outside play areas, some new in class equipment, and importantly allowed some staff members the time to review the National Quality Framework standards and to consider MECEC practices. Fundraising generated in 2013 will continue to support these areas, however will also assist with some plans to develop and improve the whole Kindergarten facilities, particularly the back room.

Any support you can provide is greatly appreciated, however without doubt the most significant support from families each year is from your attendance at MECEC events, be it the Fun Day, the Celebrate Mooroolbark stall, Working Bees, Social BBQ’s, even if it’s only momentary. I look forward to seeing you come down and why not start with a Hot Dog with your kids on Friday 22 February 2013, from 5:30pm at MECEC.

The 2013 Committee has many new members, of course all of which are parents like you. It has been great to meet some new families and already we are busy on organising some interesting activities and events for 2013, so keep your eye on the website, newsletter and talk with staff and class representatives to keep up with all the activity.

Now, something for the kids. Each newsletter of 2013 will contain another chapter to the story of Monty from Mooroolbark. The story itself is not quite Mooroolbark legend or folklore, however with the help of your children the story will grow. Below is how the story starts, but this is only the start. The story will unfold over the year with the ideas from your children, so read it to them and let their imaginations run wild while they tell you what happens next. You can then provide us your child’s ideas, which can be either a few simple dot points or a few detailed paragraphs, through the MECEC website at info@mecec.com.au. As the year progresses there will be a need for the kids to create the vision of what Monty looks like, perhaps culminating into a special appearance from him at the 2013 Fun Day.

We look forward to the ideas from your children and a great year ahead.
